Spring Tavern Tour – April 24, 2010

A spring bike run for central Ohio British bike riders is planned for Saturday, April 24th, 2010.  Anyone with a vintage bike is invited for a nice leisurely ride through the central Ohio countryside.  It will be pretty flat, but scenic nonetheless.  The first destination is the historic Red Brick Tavern in the little town of Lafayette, just north of London, Ohio at 12 noon for lunch.  The Red Brick Tavern was established in 1837 and has great sandwiches, hamburgers, pizza, a tap room, and a wide selection of beverages.

You are welcome to join a group of riders that will head west from Columbus starting at 10 a.m.  The group will gather at the old North High School, 100 Arcadia Street, and head west on the old National Road, Route 40, one of the main cross-country routes before the Interstate system was built.

If Columbus isn’t where you’re starting from, then just meet up with the group at the Red Brick Tavern for lunch at noon.  We’ll plan on staying there for an hour or so, then head north to Bud Runkle’s motorcycle shop and museum in Irwin, Ohio.  We plan to get there by 2:30 or 3:00 p.m., and it’s about a 45 minute ride north through farm country.  You’ll enjoy looking at Bud’s bikes – over 60 classic rides from all corners of the world.  Entrance to Bud’s place is $5 so bring a bit of cash.  Bud also has lots of parts and provides service for vintage bikes.

If you want to join the ride and have questions, call Keith at 614-668-4450, or email kmccormish@gmail.com.  Bring your vintage bike and some friends.  Hope to see you at the Red Brick!

Wisconsin Farm Ride – July 3rd and 4th  , 2010

You are invited to attend an overnight gathering at the scenic farm of George Grauwels, located in west central Wisconsin south of Fairchild in Jackson County.  There are many good roads for motorcycle riding, with some passing through Amish settlements

·  Camping on my “farm” near the pole barn or more rustic and secluded areas on the “back forty”

·  Motels available in Osseo, WI approx. 12 miles west of Fairchild  (Super 8,  715 597 5000 and Osseo Inn,  715 597 3175)

The weekend also has family activities in Augusta, WI, approx. nine miles north of Fairchild, called Bean ‘n Bacon days consisting of food, games and a car, truck, motorcycle and tractor show on Sunday with a parade.

The farm is located south of highway 10 at the junction with highways 12 & 27 ( Cenex gas station)  Find me on MapQuest or fire up your GPS or call for instructions.  The ride will be July  3rd and 4th  but it’s OK to arrive the afternoon/evening of Friday July 2nd   if you wish.  The Mississippi River is about 1.5 hours west of Fairchild. Lots of twisty and hilly roads the nearer one gets to the river.  There is a motorcycle off-road riding park located approx. ten miles east of Fairchild.  I’m planning on some refreshments so I need to know how many are coming.  Please call George Grauwels at (H) 715-334-2315  (C) 715-533-1999 or email to G3@cuttingedge.net.
